Odd Girl Out

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Odd Girl Out by Rachel Simmons is a beautifully written book. It is a must have for every teen girl.It shows “the hidden culture of aggression in girls” ( Odd Girl Out cover). It explains how being popular is not always really a good thing. In addition it shows what it really means to be all that. Are you all that? Think again, if you are you have a lot to start improving on. This Book will teach the reader what it truly means to be a girl. This includes what a popular kid really is (they can back stab you), well known conflicts between girls, and  competition between cliques. After reading this, you will be fully tuned on what to and not do in order to be a normal girl.

Transsiberian

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Transsiberian starring Woody Herrelson as Roy, Emily Mortimer as Jessie, and Kate Mara as Abby. All three of actors suit the characters perfectly. This masterpiece is rated R, but personally I believe it should have been rated PG-13. If you are the type of viewer who like movies that grab you starting with the first second of watching. This movie is for a mature audience only, because there are a couple of torturing scenes, violence, and kissing scenes. A great watch…If your interested in seeing Transsiberian you can pic it up at your local movie rental place. It will probably be in the new releases section because it recently just came out in 2008.

White Horse

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Taylor Swift’s song “White Horse” is beautifully sung. This is the first song this reviewer has ever heard by Taylor Swift. She introduces a new type of music…in between, country, hip hop, and calming sounds. The lyrics are easy to understand unlike other songs by other singers where the listener can barely understand a single word. Go to Taylor Swift! Hope your other songs become just as successful as this one. I invite you to watch the music soundtrack below…Post your comments below.

Tally (from Uglies) Villain or Hero?

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Tally is a hero in The Uglies. If not for Tally’s agreement with Special Circumstances to turn Shay in, Shay would be living in the Smoke getting older and wrinklier every day. Mid-way through The Uglies, Tally decided to not turn Shay in and to instead become an Ugly, and live with the Smokies. Accidentally, Tally set off the alarm which allowed Special Circumstances to track her location. Tally’s choice of turning Shay in was worth the while, because Tally made the trip to the Smoke and finally realized her mistake of going to turn Shay in. Before, Tally was too scared to make the trip to the Smoke, and didn’t want to look ugly her whole life, so she decided to become a Pretty. Even after everything that happened, both Shay and Tally turned up becoming what they had originally dreamt of becoming, a Pretty. Now they both get to be supermodel gorgeous, and never become old. Even knowing that going through the Pretty procedure would make you dumb, Tally understood that the best thing for herself and for the oncoming generations of Pretty’s was to turn herself into a Pretty. In conclusion, if Tally had chosen to stay ugly her whole life, and to not turn Shay in, Tally’s life would be horrible. In addition, the pill David’s mother created would be untested, and thus for many generations afterward, all Pretty’s, would be unintelligent.

Another Uglies Review

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

The Uglies by Scot Westerfield is a fantastic book. The technology described was very impressive and futuristic. In particular, the hover cars and hover boards are great ways of transportation that we do not have today. Hopefully, humans will one day invent the same technology as in The Uglies. I also thought the plot and characters were fascinating. I became emotionally attached to Tally. Just before her operation to become a Pretty, a conflict arose, which left her with two choices: to never become a Pretty, or to betray her friend Shay. This part of the plot appealed the most to me because I couldn’t predict what was going to happen next. I also had the urge to continue reading, in order to see the choice that Tally would make. I liked this book so much that I continued reading other sequels to The Uglies. I would recommend this adventurous book to my friends looking to read a great book by a great author.

Video concerning reduced and over population

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

It is interesting to see how in a matter of 40 years the population of the world doubled. (Especially in China, India, Europe, and Sudan) It was so devastating to see thousands of people dying because of the Black Plague and wars. Who could have known that medicine, better technology, and an improved economy could save hundreds of thousands of lives or even prolong people’s lives? With more people around, there would be more ideas which would mean that more medications could be invented. Thus, the human’s life expectancy could almost double. On the other hand with over population, there would be more competition for fewer resources, and people could die of starvation, or more crops could be produced allowing everyone to eat and not starve. With over population, if the Black Plague swept one person it could contaminate its surrounding people very quickly considering it would be much more crowded than have a normal population. The video left me with the thought of when it will be 2048. How will I survive with double the population of 2008, considering it already is over populated?
