Crank Dat Soldier Boy

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Crank Dat Soldier Boy by Soulja Boy is a terrible song. The dance, music, and lyrics show that this song has no class. I lost count how many times the words “soulja boy” were repeated in this pointless malaise. Apparently, Soulja Boy has mastered the art of pronouncing his own fictional name. The dance was equally unimpressive, and I could not help but laugh at Soulja boy’s outfit - baggy pants that looked like they would fall off anytime, mixed with a shirt made to fit an elephant. The main melody line (if you could even call it that) consisted of 4 notes repeated in a syncopation altogether too common in the annoying genre of “music” (liberal usage here).

Post your opinion in the comments. PS. Beware, your ears might begin bleeding randomly. Mental illness may follow shortly! Do yourself a favor, and avoid this travesty altogether.

Watch the 2008 Beijing Olympics online in full screen

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

The Olympics officially began yesterday on Friday, however you can still catch up with the 2008 Beijing Olympics online. There are several ways to watch the Olympics online. The best I’ve found so far is on http://www.nbcolympics.com

There are several problems with the NBC online Olympics broadcasts. The most notable of which is the lack of ability to watch the Olympics sports games in full screen. Second, you have to install Microsoft’s silverlight player, however that is only a minor annoyance.

There is one way I’ve figured out to get around the small screen resolution, and watch the Olympics full screen online. If you are using internet explorer, simply press F11 (which blows up the window to full screen. Then in the bottom right hand corner of your browser change the magnifying resolution to whatever will allow you to have full screen watching. You will probably have to slide over the bottom and right hand side to center the video. Another problem that comes with this ‘hack’ is that the screen keeps sliding to the left. So you need to hold the mouse button down somehow (I used a heavy weight).

Unfortunately you can only watch in Internet Explorer, Safari, and Firefox. Browsers such as opera are not supported.

Lastly, I could not figure out how to watch the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics on NBC’s site, and it’s unlikely to become available online because of the massive advertising dollars they intend to make on TV.

If anyone has figured out a way to watch the Olympics in full screen on FireFox, please post in the comments.

Bop to the Top Review

Friday, August 8th, 2008

High School Musical’s Bop to the Top is a total fake.  Its visible that the actors are lip-singing. The real voices that are singing are beautiful. Though, I must admit that the choreography is lovely. All the movements are smooth and fit the lyrics to every second of the music. The lyrics are so cool. This is a great song to sing and to dance to! Boo to the lip singing! Post your comments on this post.

True Friend Review

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Hannah Montana is an O.K. rock star. Her music video True Friend is sort of beautiful. The way she sings fits the music 100%. The choreography  fits the lyrics  to the music smoothly. Her outfits are  always pretty for A preschooler. Every word sounds like it coming right from Miley’s heart (jk). Please post your opinion about Hannah Montana’s True Friend in the comments.

Where to ask for free sheet music

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

It’s often hard to find the sheet music you are looking for, and in my experience I’ve found the best place to find free sheets is on a forum. There are many forums out there, here I’ll try to evaluate a few of the most popular ones.

Best free sheet music forum - Sheet Music Fox Forums You can find almost anything here, many people peruse the forums regularly and respond to your free sheet music requests. This site is best for popular music notes and classical musical notes.

Second best sheet music forum - 8Notes forum

They are the largest sheet music forum, but often your requests go neglected because of their large size. Still you can find a lot of good sheets there.

The worst forum I’ve tried using for sheet music is PianoStreet. It is incredibly hard to use, and it is often not free to download sheet music. I recommend using the other two forums listed above for free sheet music.

Standard Deviants Algebra Adventure Review

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Standard Deviant’s Algebra Adventure is garbage.  I wanted to learn Algebra 1, and this dvd was rated highly on amazon, so I attempted to try it out. After only five minutes, I was forced to take the DVD out my computer, and put it back in the box. Standard Deviant’s Algebra Adventure is the worst way to learn Algebra 1. The teaching techniques and format of the DVD are ridiculous. I would not recommend this trash on a stick to anyone. Buy it at your own risk, but don’t say I didn’t warn you! This DVD should be rated a negative 10 out of a ten rating. Please post your experiences with this algebra DVD in the comments.

Faraway Summer Review

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Faraway Summer by Johanna Hurwitz is a spectacular book. The illustrations done by Mary Azarian are beautiful. The format of Faraway Summer suits the story very well, especially the way Johanna Hurwitz combines normal storybook format with a diary format. While reading Faraway Summer, I even learned a lot of interesting historical facts about the New York public library. This book should be read by children over 10 years of age, because the vocabulary can be quite challenging at times. I would recommend Faraway Summer to any historical fiction book lover. Faraway Summer deserves a 10 out of 10 rating. Please post you thoughts about Faraway Summer in the comments.

Candyman Review

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Christina Aguilera’s Candyman is a true masterpiece. Candyman combines todays modern type of music with the music commonly created in the 1960s. The choreography is beautiful beacause all the movements are smooth, perfect, and very graceful. Also, Christina Aguilera’s voice can raise from a low tone to a high pitched tone. Moreover, I liked every second of this music. Her dancing perfectly complements the music. You are  invited  to post your opinion in the comments of this review of Candyman.

Beethoven Symphony No. 5 Review

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Beethoven Symphony No. 5 is a beautifully composed classical piece. I especially enjoyed listening to the opening, because of the deep instrumental sound. Furthermore, the opening is very emotionally moving, however transitions to sheer bliss, by changing the tempo, melody, key signatures, and alternating between the various instruments.  Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 may in fact be autobiographical, because it includes the happy and the sad moments of Beethoven’s life. On a scale of 1 to 5, I  rate this masterpiece a perfect 5.

A Little Princess Review

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

A Little Princess by Frances Hodgen Burnett is a fantastic book, which has even inspired some recent films. Being unsuccessful, the movie version of A Little Pirncess was spoiled because of the added “Hollywood garbage”. The unabridged version of A little Princess tells the story of a wealthy young girl Sara Crew, who has been living in her hometown, India. One day her father sends her to Miss Minchins school. The book recounts Sara’s adventures with fastidious detail. When I picked the book up (after watching the Hollywood version), I expected the book to be just as good as the movie, but to my surprise the book was  more entertaining and exciting than the movie was. I would recommend this book for all ages. On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate this book a solid 10. Though I have not created a study guide for A Little Princeess, I invite my loyal readers to post their own study guides and thoughts about A Little Princess.
